Mark Riggio, Owner
Mark Riggio is a recognized member of the global maritime business community. Before starting Simplify Ballast in 2022, Mark served as the Head of Marine for Filtersafe, the Product and Market Manager for Hyde Marine (a division of Kuraray), a Port Engineer and Fleet Manager for Crowley Maritime Services, a Field Surveyor for the American Bureau of Shipping, and a regulatory compliance manager for R&B Falcon Drilling. He has also worked as an independent consultant since 2006, working in maritime business development, maritime security and domain awareness, vessel interdiction and hardening, and supply chain risk abatement.
Mark’s diverse past helps him drive innovative solutions for the complex issues of the maritime industry. He is a published author and regular presenter at industry events. Mark served on the Formation Committee and the inaugural Board of Directors for the Ballastwater Equipment Manufacturer’s Association (BEMA), holding the position of President until 2020. A graduate of the United States Merchant Marine Academy, holds a Bachelors of Science in Marine Engineering Systems and an Executive MBA from the Katz School of Business at the University of Pittsburgh. He lives in Mars, Pennsylvania with his wife Amy and has three children: Andy, Michael and Jack.

Andy Riggio (they/them) joined the family business in 2026 to take over Simplify Ballast’s marketing efforts and social media. Based in the greater Houston area and a graduate of the U.S. Navy’s Nuclear Power School, they are a proud cat-parent to two kitties.
