The right system depends on water you haven't sampled yet.

Three sales reps in your office, three sets of performance claims, no independent reference. We do not sell BWMS equipment, do not take referral fees, and do not subcontract diagnostic work. The recommendation is based on your vessel and your routes. Nothing else.

A recommendation built on your water, not someone's sales target

Selecting a ballast water management system is not a new task. Systems have been selected and installed on most ships, yet there are still so many issues – why? Because you are selecting the wrong systems for the wrong reasons and expecting results. We give those results – not excuses.

Type approval isn't a guarantee

Why the make matters

Every BWMS is type-approved against a standard. Type approval doesn't mean the system performs at your worst-case operating conditions – it means the system works in the waters it was tested in: laboratory water. And that water was prepared based on the manufacturers’ specifications. Are those specifications good enough for your operations? Maybe – but probably not.

Different systems excel in different water types, different flow ranges, different installation footprints. We know how to read the system, and we know how to read the certificate. We can tell you what systems will work where you want them to – not just where the manufacturer's sales team thinks they will.

Mark spent twenty years across the BWMS industry: at the manufacturers, at the shipping companies, at the class society, at the trade association. He has tested systems around the world in every type of water. He knows how to beat the tests – so he sees when someone else is designing a system to do just that. He knows where each system performs and where it doesn't. He doesn't sell any of them.

The process

How a selection engagement works

From water sampling to contract review, every step is built around your vessel and routes.

  • Water-quality assessment for your trading routes: sampling plus a global database
  • Operational profile mapping across flow, salinity, temperature, and turbidity ranges
  • Installation footprint review against the vessel general arrangement
  • Ranked shortlist with explicit pros and cons
  • Total cost of ownership over 10–15 years: consumables, maintenance, power, downtime
  • Negotiation support and contract review for the selected make

How the decision goes wrong

Left to the yard and the sales calls, the choice gets made on the wrong inputs:

  • Decision driven by yard preference or recent sales call
  • No idea how the system performs on your actual routes
  • Over-spec or under-spec, both expensive in different ways
  • Sticker price comparison only, no lifecycle math

What you get instead

The recommendation is grounded in data and built to defend:

  • Decision driven by data, not relationships
  • Specific lists of system design limitations to match your needs and not just the yard's makers list
  • Performance modeled against your specific water and routes
  • Right-sized system with documented justification
  • Defensible recommendation for the board and the bank

Independent by design

Manufacturer-independent, vessel-specific

We don't sell BWMS equipment and we don't take referral fees. That independence is what makes the recommendation defensible to the board and the bank.

What independence is worth

The yard handed us their makers list of BWMS for our series of five Panamax newbuilds. Mark's analysis showed it would have cost us 30% more in consumables and cost us over 48 hours of additional port time every year based on the contracted routes.

We used their own certificates against them and invalidated the makers list, selecting the system we wanted. The yard hated it. The crews love it.

That is what independence buys: a recommendation built on your water and routes – and the ability to implement that recommendation.
